Happy 2017 everyone! This is our first blog post of the year, and it's already been a great start to 2017. The best part of a new year is having new beginnings, and with that comes new design projects and inspiration!! We have been staying up to date on all the latest design trends, and have picked out our favorites that we think will be the most lasting and will want to make their way into your home. So here are our favorite design trends for 2017!!
Green is the new Navy
Just as navy won over all our hearts and found its place into our kitchen cabinets and furniture, GREEN will be replacing this as the new "it color" ... and trust me it is
goooood. And I'm not talking just any green color, I'm talking those dark emerald greens and hunter greens. Super moody, I love it! This will be the new trend for kitchen cabinet colors, and will be the new love for velvet sofas.
Natural Wood
Any and all wood that hasn't been on your floor has made an appearance in a painted finish for a long time now. While painted woods are still going strong, you will start to see natural woods incorporated into home decor. And when I say natural wood, I don't mean the super warm dark tones that we're all used to. Think super light, soft grained woods that still create an open and fresh feel. My favorite is to pair these natural wood tones with lots of white and then glam it up with some metal accents. So if you've been holding out on painting your kitchen cabinets, you are fine to keep them the natural wood! You can also start incorporating natural wood in other case goods such as night stands and sideboards.
No Upper Cabinets
Yes, you read that correct. NO upper cabinets!! And it's awesome!! I'm sure you're mind is going all practical on me right now, and so let me preface this that this design trend needs to be done carefully and with taste. If your kitchen is set up in a way that you are able to have lots of lower cabinets, a large island, or a full wall of cabinets, then I would absolutely go for this! You want to make sure you still have adequate storage (or else you will hate your kitchen and your life) but being able to nix a lot of your upper cabinets will visually enlarge your space and keep the line of vision open to make your space so open and airy. I love love love this design trend and think it's an absolute must where applicable. Replace upper cabinets with full length windows (and when I say windows, I mean black grid beautiful windows), intricate tile backsplash up to your ceilings... the possibilities are endless!
Other trends to keep in mind are to incorporate lots of texture, open shelving (on walls, islands, nightstands), keep colors neutral with pops of bold jewel tones, terra-cotta tile, and painted brick.
