Design with Confidence: E-boards & Virtual Rooms

Elisabeth's birthday is coming up in March, and for her birthday she wantsto redesign her bedroom. I am so excited to be a part of designing a fun room that matches her fun and spontaneous personality.

We wanted to design a room that is young and fun, but one that is still sophisticated enough that she will still love in a few years down the road.

Elisabeth's Must Haves:
1. New Bedspread
2. New paint color
3. Window Treatments
4. Young & fun patterns
5. A growing sophistication
6. Pops of Color

I have been doing a lot of E-Boards lately, which are a great resource to put an entire room together before even purchasing one furniture piece. Gone are the days of repainting and taking back accessories that you decide don't go with the room once you have it in the space.

Here's the initial design proposal for her room:

Elisabeth found this black and white bedspread that she really liked. The black and white kept the color palette neutral and classy, and the cityscape and Paris details brought in a fun style.

Black & White Paris Bedding - Bed Bath & Beyond - $89.99-$119.99

Mixing black and white can be tricky, but looks awesome when you can blend the patterns together nicely. We debated on bringing in black and white striped drapes, or a black and white striped rug, and ended up bringing the pattern in through the area rug.

Black & White Striped Dhurrie Rug - World Market - $39.99 - $229.99 (varying sizes)
With all the black and white we were using in the textiles, we needed to introduce our "pop" of color. Wall color is the perfect way to add some warmth and interest when you are designing with a black and white space. We wanted to introduce a soft, but colorful turquoise for the paint color.
Wall Paint Color - Rainwashed SW 6211
To break up all the wall color and soften the black and white, we selected to do a soft-white linen drapery for the window treatment.

Cotton Canvas Grommet Curtain - White - West Elm - $23- $47 (varying sizes) I have also had luck finding linen looking curtains at Home Goods and even Ross.
Now comes the fun part - adding accessories. Accessories can accentuate the style of the room you are trying to achieve, and even though they are the "finishing touches", they have the biggest impact on the final design of the space. We wanted to bring in some luxe and even a little bit of chic, so we selected gold side tables and lamps with a few faux fur throws and pillows.

3D Gold Geo Stool - Burlap and Denim - $199
Target has a similar one that I have in my personal home, that looks like this:

Threshold Round Metal Honeycomb Accent Table - Target - $79
Kathy Irreland Gold Rodeo Drive Table Lamp - Lamps Plus - $158 (I have also seen similar ones at Hobby Lobby)
White Shag Pillow Cover - Etsy - $40
Ivory Mongolian Lamb Signature Series Faux Fur Throw Blankets - Fabulous Furs - $179

As far as artwork on the walls, I want to do some type of black and white city image in a gallery wall collage like this:

Can't wait to celebrate Elisabeth's birthday and for her room to come together. We will see if it looks close to the E-Board I created for the initial design proposal, or if it changes as we go.
