Navy meets Gold & Abstract Art

It's no secret that NAVY has been capturing the hearts of designers and home-nesters for some time. Blues are a great way to add color to your space while still keeping it calm and timeless. Navy is sophisticated yet fun, colorful but neutral. And the only way to make navy better is to pair it with an energizing gold metallic. The calming effects of blues will liven up with the excitement and glam of gold.

Navy & Gold Living Room

Ingredients:

1) Neutral Furniture Pieces
2) Pattern through textiles (throw pillows and area rug)
3) Dramatic Artwork
4) Navy, Gold & gray color scheme
5) White space
6) Organic textures & Metallic finishes

1. Neutral Furniture Pieces - KEEP IT NEUTRAL. Yes, you love that hot color right now. But don't buy it in a large and expensive furniture piece. Keep your large furniture pieces  neutral and add the pops of color through rugs, draperies, and throw pillows. That way when a new color comes the following season (which is always will) that you absolutely need to have, you are looking at replacing smaller accessories to keep your home and design feeling updated.

2. Pattern through textiles - Fabrics are the most fun to mix and match. Keep your undertones the same throughout your textiles, but here is where you can bring in some flair to your design by selecting a pattern to add interest to your space. (If you are designing a room that doesn't have many textiles, you can achieve the same effect through tile finishes such as bathroom floors and backsplashes). Pattern is invaluable. Every space needs it to capture the style and feel.

3. Dramatic Artwork - Artwork is another great way to incorporate some fun pattern and adds interest to a space. Group in pairs or sets of three to achieve a balanced look. Abstract artwork works great in this space to soften some of the contemporary lines used in the textiles and furniture. Artwork is powerful and finishes off a space.

4. Navy, Gold & Gray color scheme - Navy & Gold  work well together because they are shades of two of the three primary colors on the color wheel (blue and  yellow). When you design with primary colors, they create strong and sophisticated rooms. Grey is considered a neutral and softens the color palette when mixed with these other two combinations.

5. White Space - White space is HUGE. So important. White space is considered negative space, or areas in your room where you don't occupy with color, pattern and texture. This is so important in a room where you have lots of pattern and color incorporated to give your eye a place to rest. Without it, the carefully designed patterns and colors would be too overpowering and lose their effect. White space compliments and balances the entire room.

6. Organic Textures & Metallic finishes - In this room, we incorporated organic textures through Mongolian Lamb throw pillows and heavy pile on the area rug to soften the clean lines of the furniture and add visual interest and depth to the space. To contrast the organic textures, we incorporated metallic finishes in the artwork through gold leafing, and selecting gold finish hardware.

This is going to be such a great space, and love the elegant and sophisticated feel it offers. Stay tuned for the final installment pictures coming soon!
